As we enter the month of August and the days are hot, I'm often reminded of watching Cubs games as a kid -- Harry Caray would always declare August the "Dog Days of Summer." While that phrase or state of mind is certainly not unique to baseball, it was my first exposure to it. Now that I'm older and in business, many of the talking heads declare these months the "Dog Days" in the markets. Often used to describe hot and sultry days, the phrase also refers to time marked by a dull lack of progress.

Amazing how something with no vulgarity can be one of the most insulting and impactful messages to BO that I have seen to date!

Dear Mr. Obama,
Thank you for not going to Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day. There is something very sacred about that place and about that day.
Those who bled and died for this country deserve to be honored and saluted by people who love their country and honor their sacrifice. You don't belong there.
Thank you for realizing that, and going to Chicago .

CRASHING HIS ESCALADE, THE PRESS FOUND EVERY WOMAN WITH
WHOM TIGER HAS HAD AN AFFAIR IN THE LAST FEW YEARS, WITH
PHOTOS, TEXT MESSAGES, RECORDED PHONE CALLS, ETC. AND,
THEY NOT ONLY KNEW THE CAUSE OF THE FAMILY FIGHT, BUT THEY
EVEN KNEW IT WAS A WEDGE FROM HIS GOLF BAG THAT HIS WIFE
USED TO BREAK OUT THE WINDOWS IN THE ESCALADE.
NOT ONLY THAT, THEY KNEW WHICH WEDGE! AND EACH AND
EVERY DAY, THEY GAVE AMERICA MORE UPDATES ON HIS
SEX-REHAB STAY, HIS WIFE'S PLANS FOR DIVORCE, AND THE
DATES AND TOURNAMENTS HE WILL PLAY IN.

The election of President Barack Obama looked like it might mark the resurgence of the Democratic Party in South Dakota. Democratic voter registration rose from 190,905 for the 2006 general election to 204,413 for the 2008 general election. Democratic registration kept growing for months afterward, reaching 206,086 in early July 2009. And then the erosion began. Democratic registration fell steadily month by month since then. As of Aug. 3, it’s down to 192,993.

The problem with public housing is that the residents are not the owners.

The people who live in the house did not earn the house, but were loaned the property from the true owners, the taxpayers. Because of this, the residents do not have the "pride of ownership" that comes with the hard work necessary. In fact, the opposite happens and the residents resent their benefactors because the very house is a constant reminder that they themselves did not earn the right to live in the house. They do not appreciate the value of the property and see no need to maintain or respect it in any way.

Hello Kristi Supporters!!

A friendly reminder that Kristi will be participating at the Sioux Empire Fair Forum on Wednesday August 11th. The event will be held in the Bridlewood Building. Doors open at 10am. We are expecting a large crowd (Wednesday is also Ag Day at the Fair), so get there early to grab (and save) a seat! We have been told that it could quite possibly be standing-room-only after 12:30pm, so get there early!

The New General Motors Company (aka Obama Motors) has announced the building of a new $500 million dollar plant that will provide new jobs for 390 auto workers.

Following the bail out and takeover of GM by the Obama administration, this should be seen as great news for the beleaguered American Auto Workers.

The new plant will produce a new vehicle and eight-cylinder engines, according to company officials.

Great News, right?

Well…not so fast……

The Brand New G.M. Plant won’t be built in Detroit, or any other city in Michigan.

Lieutenant Governor Dennis Daugaard, coming off his Republican Primary win last week, continues to hold a commanding lead over Democratic challenger Scott Heidepriem in the gubernatorial race in South Dakota.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state finds Duagaard earning 52% of the vote, while Heidepriem, a state senator, picks up 36% support. Only three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and nine percent (9%) more are undecided.
